What happened in Paris is horrible and heartbreaking, but don't let it be a blinder to the fact that horrible attacks like this are happening in many places to many people all over the world. People are suffering, fighting, starving, crying, losing loved ones... every day.
I felt a different level of emotion over the news from Paris yesterday, because I could relate more to those people, their city is more like this city and their people more like me and these people... it's that feeling of the "it could happen any where" and remembering that our relative removal from violence in our day to day lives is not a guarantee of security
I thought about the fact that these people who died were just sitting at a cafe, enjoying a concert, out walking... they were mothers, children, lovers, friends, normal people who are loved and now missed by someone... so many hearts are broken missing these people and I feel that. But these same people are dying and missed and loved all over everyday and the news is less prominent, the reaction smaller, the outrage nearly invisible, because we either don't know it happened or it seems "normal" for it to happen "there" to "those" people. Because we relate less to them and that place... but in reality they matter just as much, their pain is just as tragic, and it is unsettling to see this difference in media coverage and social expression of such events.

unhinged and all the leaders of the western world are on the news talking about retribution and the terrorists just keep coming

and yet somehow they never manage to attack the people making the decisions they dont like. they always kill the innocents. but i guess to them we are all evil. *sigh*

unhinged (i am trying to get a second teaching job right now and the owner of the store i am trying to get in the door at was at a restaurant in paris last night with his pregnant wife and two small kids about two doors down where 'nearly eighteen' people were gunned down by a man with a machine gun. they just happened to be in a nearby spot instead. the restaurant they were eating in pulled the shades and had the diners try to hide. (the same training i have received at work for active gunman scenario) my coworker friend trying to help me get this job saw all of this in a facebook post because he is friends with the owner of this new place !!! !!!!! WHAT THE FUCK....)

all those people
all those innocent people just trying to enjoy friday night in paris

unhinged and american media is a joke. if you want real news coverage you should really look somewhere else.

most americans are selfish and callous. as long as they can still spend all day at the mall buying shit they dont need many of us will have little to no reaction to a tragedy half way across the world.
