deb i want to go back home
to chicago,
the city where the night doesn't sleep,
where the traffic hums
and people swarm like flies,
masses upon masses,
to and from wherever-
i want to sit on the beach at night
and watch the waves
roll and roar against the rocks-
i want to go back home with you,
to show you the places i've been,
the places i've seen;
a place where the music comes alive
every night, somewhere-
a place where you can sip a latte
and read a poem aloud-

the lights in winter,
the snow upon the frozen sand,
the library, just bursting with knowledge

but it wouldn't be home without you by my side-
it would just be that hollow place
it was before-
so come with me, love-
take me home with you-
take me back to the place
where i can feel free once more-

Dafremen Ya know, Happy Joe's Good Times Ice Cream Birthday Parlor was like that for me.(I was born 20 miles outside of Chi-town this was a small place next to the carpet warehouse.)
They would gather up all of the employees and embarrass anyone you liked and they DIDN'T care if it was their birthday or not. (I sicked em on a perfect stranger once. Good thing I was only 11 at the time. : ) )
They had this little Candy Store in the front of the "restaurant". Some of the most amazing candies I've ever seen. There was an all-day sucker that GLOWED IN THE DARK. (It was very cool and completely non-toxic, or so the guy told me) They had Jawbreakers that must've had at least 200 layers to them(each one a different color! Solid to the CORE! (6 days later I find this out.)). I couldn't get the damned thing in my mouth for 5 hours. (Heheh once I did it got stuck and I couldn't do anything but drool and point at the gobstopper to try and get someone to help me unstick it. ) They had Zotz which is cool candy that fizzes and they had pop rocks and they had wax lips and those little clear wax bottles of colored sugar water that look like little soda bottles. They had those sheets of sugar button candy stuck to the paper.(The one that you always end up eating as much paper as candy. Yea that one.) They had candy cigarettes (which was cool then, isn't as cool now and still tasted like Pepto-Bismol.) and bubble gum cigars. I mean man they had ALL of the cool candies and ice creams and that's why it was absolutely the most wonderful place that I always wanted to take someone special back to.

So I finally took the missus there last year. It's called Ristorante Lugio and the candy store's a cash register area now. They have tic-tacs....doooouble miiint guummm....ZZzzz....and Dutch Maaster Seeegars. Oh and toothpicks. wee. haw.

ellen cherry charles Well honey I'm sure
that you've been in love before
plenty of men have held high places in your eyes
but jealousy has got no use for me

the past is beautiful, like the darkness between fireflies
