It's fun to pretend that change is inevitable, but is it? Some of us wait and wait for changes that never come. Saying that everything constantly changes is as often true as it is false. Gravity, anyone?

and the concept of gravity is described as a constant in physics; the definition of a constant is that it stays the same over time. the object that gravity acts upon is constantly changing though. so the concept of things constantly changing at least at the molecular level is quite true. the changes aren't always visible; sometimes they just take awhile to manifest themselves.

Agreed, Unhinged. And who knows, was there a "time" prior to gravity? Did gravity change from one thing to another? Yes, these things have all been discussed elsewhere. Change is sometimes to be welcomed, and at other times, to be resisted. Accepting every change because it makes for a pleasant maxim is bound to cause trouble... as much trouble as would be caused by resisting every change. Fascism, anyone?

You bring up gravity as an example and then when it's invalidated you say it's irrelevant. Idiocy, anyone?

It wasn't invalidated, Daxle. When I referred to gravity, I was thinking of the operant force, which is, to the best of anyone's knowledge, unchanging. Unhinged so sweetly pointed out that while constant in principle, the affected entities do experience perpetual change. The effect of gravity may be stronger between two objects which are near than two which are far, but "gravity" itself has not changed, only the "gravitation". Is there a difference? Of course. Were the two objects far and then near, then equally far again, the pull of gravity itself would not suddenly change for equivalent matter distanced equally, though other factors may of course intervene to make it appear otherwise. Gravity, the force, is unchanging, though its effect may net external changes. Daxle, your hostility is so thoroughly undue as to be fully preposterous; obviously the unwarranted slinging of mud stems from personal dissatisfaction concerning emotional material external to the blue hypertextings of this site. Take a deep breath, and... relaxle, Daxle!

the pseuddhist and her need to aggrandize herself by inventing an argument show that at the most frequent and obvious levels, most changes are superficial in nature, and like the mud at the bottom of the pond, the dirt and slime and shit may migrate about beneath that pretty, idyllic surface, but they remain present nonetheless

I agree. Change, by its very nature, would be constantly changing. Uh... Wait a second. I_must think on this further...

actually, and to be clear, unhinged, the "pseuddhist" tag is being flung at someone else. one of those damnable cherry-pickers you find in any religion or philosophy, wearing their alleged convictions like so much disposable fashion, casting one set of beliefs aside for another every time the breeze changes direction people like that are why i refuse to believe anything i haven't seen up close me and my innate apostasy regret the mixup
