people can only learn truth from primary experience, no book is going to show you the true smell of a busy china town or the taste of a pigeon pancake. No youngster is going to have a better knowlege spending their money going to Cambridge rather than going round the world on your own for a few years...........who comes back wiser and less ignorant ? it's not a difficult question. You want to read books and be marked for your so called intellegence, i say you are a mockery to yourself. Have some REAL pride for once don't boss your waiter around as if you are queen of the desert, you are useless if you don't respect water and you so called slaves.

i've read plenty of books that have shown me The Truth. and then i went out into the real world and it was changed. all of these books were books i chose to read on my own however.

did i say there was somthing wrong with reading a book? i didn't say so, i just said it is better to have an experience, and if you can meet an interesting person that has a good story to tell, it is better to hear it from their lips.

it sure felt like you were attacking me dude. i know what you mean though. i've seen people read certain things to add to their image. a lot of the scenester_bitches around here are into kerouac and bukowski (sp?). i notice it at the coffee shops especially. the way people hide behind their books to watch people, not really reading, with the title prominently displayed. i read to know whatever it is i want to know. the dharma, acoustics, beauty, the little fictionalized world someone else created just for me to know. i've always loved books since i learned how to read them. i eat them up. czeslaw_milosz i buy books like other girls buy shoes college made me forget for a second how much i actually like to read.
