I work in a seniors home many of them are involved with programs outside of this building for support "lifelines" if you will. Tonight..one of them activated one, sending phones ringing everywhere..help hans..Hans is requesting assistance..it may be life threatening. everyone but the head nurse is on her break..so she rushes through giving a patient a BATH..and goes straight to dear old Hans.. he wanted help with his tv remote. good grief.. perhaps the most frustrating thing is that he does this on an almost weekly basis.

It's the curse of the young to fear and despise the old, because they fear and despise the idea of getting old. There may come a time when you are just glad you have lived long enough to have gotten old. Hope I die before I get old? It would be interesting if you could ask our "immortalised" youthful fallen heroes which they would really prefer.

It's too bad that we don't have a better place in our society for old people than "homes." They are not homes. They are a last resort when they have no more resources. It's where people go to die, and everyone knows it. There's very little reason to not like "old people," except that the fear of old age is made very real when we are in their presence. Some are grumpy, some have some sort of dimensia. There are many, though, who are just people, whose bodies are shutting down slowly (as they all do if given the chance) and need more and more assistance. It's a shame we discard and avoid them so often. Many have a lot to offer if you are open to what they have to say. I find it strange that so many people have such an affinity to children; they not fully developed people, yes innocent but only because they've had such little opportunity to make poor decisions. Old people have already made their decisions, lived their lives, and instead of trying to learn from them and respect them for all they've been through, we shut them away and wait for them to die.

their history leeks mellow lights from the lamp behind red and yellow glass shades, incense lit in troll figurines aquired from germany. your deceased grandfather's screams can still be heard through the radiator. ground outside is miles away. you feel as if you're nowhere at all, like in a car with the windows shut on your routine trip from home to the bank. the ground outside is covered in leaves; no ground visible from auburn to atlanta. i don't know why i keep having these dreams.
