transported from hey_user24: u24: hey! we could do a fileshare-type app but instead of sharing files, we share blathes! each of us has a program that runs it's own mini-blather that only we can write on, then it links to other people with the same program and merges the blathes to create the main blather.. man that's a good idea. decentralised blather with unlimited storage and that will last as long as there's blatherskites. anne-girl, p2! brainstorm with me! p2: very interesting... and because it is decentralized there would need to be a mechanism of spreading storage amongst blatherskites i propose the following: every blatherskite stores their own blathes every "recent" blathe is viewable by all blatherskites blatherskites can then choose to save the blathe locally or not thus all the one-on-one chatter and newslinks can fade into the background as the more "quality" stuff is more readily available to those who are in the browsing mood (via a p2p search function) this design may be criticised as turning blather into a popularity contest however my response is that i blather mostly for myself and somewhat for the amusement of others my blathes will always be available to me and if others do not find them amusing let them fade into oblivion as they are obviously not amusement snuff we would also need a way to reference past blathes that might not have been saved by the blatherskite for example if i made a retarded comment way back in january of 2004 and in september of 2005 someone stumbles on it and remarks "p2 you are retarded" new blatherskites will not be sure if s/he is making a general comment on my general retardedness or if there was a specific retarded comment i had made in my general retardedness

terminology clarification, as 'blathe' can mean two things, can we say that: a blathe is eg blather.newdream.net/f/foo.html an entry is eg "wow, I like foo" on the blathe "foo" p2, would your idea be something along these lines? each skite in effect has their own copy of recent which they can choose to update or not from all the other skite's entries? I'm not sure if I get it..

ok previously i was using the term "blathe" for an entry good idea defining the terms :) picture an app w/ a recent list displayed clicking on a word brings you to a blathe page which in the background performs a p2p search/crawl the page dynamically updates itself inserting entries into their proper places (perhaps by an animated sliding of text) as the crawl finds them on other machines entries that are highly rated are more likely to show up faster during a crawl on the blathe page there is the entry plus an add/remove icon to either save it locally or remove it from your hd at the bottom of the page is the "do you have words?" every word is clickable even if it has no entries so that "do you have words?" may be the only thing on the page

every time a new entry is made an event is sent to peers if it is new to the peer it will add it to the recent list and propagate it to other peers otherwise it does nothing preventing an infinite loop

hey, now, p2, I love the idea of animated slidage. that just looks damn sexy in my mind. anne-girl, no, you're right this is very close to intrblog, except not quite because in intrblog each person has their own webserver which does the connecting, and also serves content out to random surfers, whereas this would not necessarily make each client a web server (though each client would be a server and client, but using a p2p_blather protocol* rather than http.. or something..) *probably XML/soap(/AJAX??) p2. !!I SEE!! just got the whole rating system. yes! it's not that lowly rated entries won't appear, but they'll take longer to appear because less clients have a copy of them! that's really good.

yeah... i gotcha [new blatherskites will not be sure if s/he is making a general comment on my general retardedness] ... it'd be neat if there were a way to connect blathes together (other than through words) auto_cross_reference_system style and blathes could be tagged as relevant to the other stuff on the blathe ("p2 you are retarded") or completely irrelevant, maybe fetch the rest of the blathe if it's relevant and there'd be some kind of "this blathe is similar to this" thing, so people could add connections... others could see the connections made - it'd be like meta-linkage or something
