i had this idea, for a somewhat blather-link blog type thing not necessarily called that, but blah so the idea is, you install it on your server, blah, and add stuff like any other blog (except it's cool looking and somewhat asynchronous and disorderly or whatever) but the unique thing is that people can link blog together spontaneously... like, if you want you can seamless integrate someone else's with yours, put the URL in and you're set assuming they set public-readable permissions on theirs, of course there's more to it than that, but it's kind of nebulous at the moment... i might actually write it if i get the ideas down properly is bad at planning semi-complex projects

So the Intrblog (yay for stupid names! it's like the internet... cause it's random stuff connected together all over the place) is a blog, modular system of sorts, which can be connected to anyone else's blog at your discretion || will. You can completely integrate your blog with someone else's (or many other people's), making a blather-like thing (assuming many connected blogses), or merely "attach" an entry or two of someone else's to your blog. In any case, it will always be completely clear who the entries in question belong to and the attached entries' blogs will be linked to. You can choose to "protect" your entries, not allowing them to be viewed by others. There's an easy-to-use authentication system whereby you can give people access to the protected places in your blog. Each entry has a "users" attribute, where you can specify who you want to let into protected entries ("bob", "dudeacrossthestreet", etc.) Other people's blogs can access your entries/blog by putting the URL into their web interface: internally, the blog will go to your blog/access URL, and parse the XML (i'm thinking it'll use SOAP::Lite) which it yields. Your blog will produce SOAP stuff on demand, as will theirs. There is a messaging system of sorts - you can browse others' blogs in a format of your choice (as well as choosing to use theirs) from your own space. It's an private message-type-thing, they send you messages using the same SOAP scheme. You have an Inbox, an Outbox. There are also comments as a form of communication, which are "attached" to entries (ie you can attach an entry of your own to someone else's as a comment, assuming they're allowing comments). This will be marked as something like "attached to this entry by ..." The interface should be pretty much completely customizable... probably in the same manner as WordPress (ie you can edit the HTML behind it, but the easiest way to make it look pretty is with CSS) umm... to install it you have to have access to a database (probably MySQL, since it's the most ubiquitous), as well as perl on the server. major qualm: interconnection causing gigantic lag times cause of excessive database/HTTP requests to random servers

don't completely shelve the idea. think about what's too hard/impossible, what's 'cool' but useless, and what the core of the idea is. get the core working and you might become more enthusiastic. (or you might sit back and say, hey, that's good enough). just a few thoughts from someone who also has wonderful ideas that run away to impossible places before they even get out of my head and onto the keyboard. :-)
