pete Save me - The Tea Party

I must leave you tonight my love, remain so faithfully
I must go off to war my dear, the kings await me
I will go so far away.
I will always love you, but you knew.

I regret to tell you, your man has died tonight.
He was a brave man, he fought a brave fight.
He was killed by the other side.
He was killed by the other men's knives.

She said save me
Save me

Why must you love this man, he is your brother?
This is easy to understand, my son, there is no other.
I cannot pretend to love this man Like my father.
I cannot pretend, mother, there is no other.

She said save me
Save me

When there is no truth, let's end this lie tonight.
This is easy to understand, without your best fight.
But I see a new sun rising in the east
But I see a new sun rising in the east

She said save me
Save YOU!

Jess Nothing much to say about this as we did Othello!
Even if we had done it I doubt I'd be able to quote lines from it off-hand!

I haven't read the book YET but i hear it's pretty good.

unhinged i read hamlet in high school with mrs. lenk my favorite lit teacher of all time. i was sick and had to do make up work or some such thing so she made me watch and review this video she had called 'green eggs and hamlet' which was an entertaining mixture of hamlet and green eggs and ham. some kind of thesis or dissertation for some lit/film student or some such thing. but yeah, it was highly entertaining. i'm one for the metaphor and even the pun if it's well done.

king lear will always be my favorite tragedy though.

HairThief I saw the Hamlet in Leeds a few years ago with the magnificent Christopher Eccelstone (Dr Who). It was the best play I've seen in a long time, very few sets and excellent acting. I've always enjoyed the story and I find it the most engaging of Willie's plays, the contemplation of existance is quite well handled. Plus it's got the best 2 character names ever! Rosencratz and Guildenstern. 050704

FA113N The best Hamlet ever, hands down, was directed by Trevor Nunn, starring a 23-year-old Ben Whishaw (Q in Skyfall).

It was superlative. Young people playing the roles of well, the young people, Trevor Nunn being a genius as per usual, and a modern-day setting... It was the best piece of theatre I have ever seen.

The reviewers and critics wept in praise. The place was sold out every single night. It was actually a transformative performance. It changed my entire view of the production.

Yes, I've seen the Kenneth Branagh version, I saw the David Tennant version (Patrick Stewart was a perfect Claudius), watched Jude Law... I've read Gielgud's reviews, as well as Burton and Jacobi's... None captured the character half as well.

Because let's face it, a 50 year old man does not make sense as Hamlet. The reason Hamlet is who he is, the reason for all his prevarication, is because he's a young man, fresh out of university, overwhelmed by his situation, with no clue what to do.
