y'all
emersonjay the horizon seemed to encircle me, creating a wheat-color'd prison for my being. the sun had reached its' apogee, and the wheat seem'd to wave gently in the convectional pulsations. a single brown verticality passed into the circle, and was preceeded by a dusty chevy (Ford was not tolerated round here) missing several panels but thoughtfully replaced with similar years' hand-me-downs. color matching was for the city boys.

"y'all need a ride?"
it was true.
"yes."

CheapVodka Whelp, I'm from the South and I quite frequently use the word. It's one of my favorites. I come from New Orleans, Louisiana and I am proud of the word Y'all. But it massively pisses me off when someone spells it yall. There's an apostrophe dagnabit! *grr* 011102

nocturnal you rock on two accounts:
1) you know how to spell y'all.
2) you're from nola.

if you don't mind me asking, from which part do you come?

nocturnal (upt 4 life yo) so you're a liar. metarie's not new orleans...old metarie maybe, but even that's iffy. sorry about the slidell thing. you should move back to nola and reside uptown. that's where all the fun is. 011102

oldephebe ya'll - also part of the African American argot, that abhorrent contraction sifted down through the decades, bequeathed to us by our ancestors who had the misfortune of being indentured to a life of inextricable harrow - anyway the whole ya'll thing is a pretty resilient linguistic artifact in that some african americans who have never ventured benath the mason dixon use these expressions from ante-bellum antiquity without even thinking of their dissonance, and their odious origins -

when I lived in rural PA we, well no not me but some of my more agrarian and blue collar friends used the term,"hey yous guys!"

boy I cannot get that phrase out of my head "in the shale curtain of dreams"
brilliant! no those our not my words - I forget wich charmed iron flower had posted that evocative line - can ya'll help figure that out?

i'm fixin to get real gastronomically intimate with some fatback and corn cakes slathered in honey maple syrup. Thems vittles just approaches the apex of the southern/african amercian peasant cuisine - thas' good eatin'
