i keep reading and hearing about this stuff and wanting to say things, but i can't think of specific words. it's mostly just feelings disbelief. it's odd to me to think of my nation being just north of another nation that's so different.

Not so different, I'm afraid. On that note, I challenge Pauline Marois to a game of bilingual (French-English) Scrabble. Because that is how I deal with my enemies. Seriously, it seems to me that if we could vote for things as well as people, there would be more democracy. In Canada and the States. Money might be an issue, but the Internet would make it easier. Ask people, What do you want to do about the budget? What do you want to do about guns? What do you want to do about the (stupid) proposed Charter of Quebec Values? Meanwhile, I'm honing my Scrabble skills. Rebelliously.

How is it that they can tell what percentage of us are yappity yapping about Miley Cyrus and Rihanna, but not what percentage of us are against or in favor of national debt..? Because this isn't about what we want or what's good for us. It's about our power being the horses and some assholes getting us to trust them enough to put a bit in our mouths with reins attached so they can make us take them wherever they want to go. This is the end result of marketing THINGS and MONEY as symbols of success and prestige. Thanks marketing "geniuses."

Yes, and I meant not just letting "them" know what people "think" about any given thing, but also have the popular vote be the deciding factor. As in a referendum. But neither of our countries seem to be willing to take that step. For Canada, the memory of the Quebec referendum might deter people, but I don't know what the barriers would be in the States. (Someone more knowledgeable than I might make a counterargument invoking representative government and "tyranny of the majority" but I'm not sufficiently politically-theorized to reply at the same knowledge level. I just think it would be fairer to have more direct democracy.)

Seems to me that a "tranny of the majority" is in order right about now.

Boy that has a completely different meaning when you skip the 'Y.' (Boy that also has a different meaning when combined with the word "tranny.")

51% isn't much of a majority.... 80 representatives out of approximately 423 is also not a majority i wish texas and florida and all those other southern states that voted in all these douchebags would just secede already

Ain't that just like the North? The South opts out and we force them back in. Then, they're in..and we want them to leave. That's what being "sophisticated" and "edu-macated" will do: get people to spend an entire lifetime being contrary because everyone that doesn't agree..is WRONG. (Don't forget to resort to group sneers and jeers when all else fails.)
