I would call it a close horserace tie between Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy 7 and Suikoden.
Believe it or not, my youngest daughter's boyfriend got me hooked on those damn things before she went away to college
I laugh when i catch the commercial of the woman and her young son visiting the crazed looking grandmother in he nursing home as she's ranting about a silver dragon
The look in her eyes is creepy. but it makes me laugh anyway.
I bought his copy of FF8 when he finished it. I laughed when he said that the cowboy sharpshooter character in the game looked like a young white version of me based on a picture from when i was young.

in my heart though, deep in my heart, nothing...nothing can ever replace final fantasy 3 (or six or whatever), or dragon warrior 4...or maniac mansion...
all the minor ethical dilemmas of final fantasy games are nice. and the simple resolutions and loves we've long since given up on are once again in reach. not to mention they are all excellently scored.

RPG Burnout
|
Overall, it wasn't the best game ever created. In fact, it's the only RPG that I ever got bored playing! However, it does have it's moments. It's only saving grace is the complex junction system that allows an advanced user to spend hours building all powerful characters.
