It occurs to me how many songs we have out there taking up space to say the same STINKING thing that about a bazillion other songs say. It got me to thinking...what if we used a system of standardized lyrics? Imagine, instead of there being 74,000 accepted ways to sing "I Love You" (You mean everything to me, I've got this love inside that burns so strong, You know you mah bo0..boo), we replace all such expressions with the STANDARDIZED_LYRIC: "I love you." If after said substitution the ENTIRE SONG consists of nothing but one STANDARDIZED_LYRIC repeated constantly, the title of the song then becomes the same as the STANDARDIZED_LYRIC used in the song followed by a number representing the sequence in which this song came out. So a Britney Spears tune might be: "YOU KNOW YOU WANNA HAVE SEX WITH ME 2123" by Britney Spears whereas a Prince hit from the 80s would have a much lower serial number say: "YOU KNOW YOU WANNA HAVE SEX WITH ME 1235" by Prince and the Revolution Some of the top candidates these days might be: "I'M A WHORE/DAWG, COME SCREW ME" "I LOVE YOU" "I MISS YOU" "I LOVE YOU, MISS YOU AND I'LL BE YOUR WHORE, COME SCREW ME" LET'S PARTY IF YOU'RE A WHORE WHO LIKES TO SCREW, LET'S PARTY SMOKE WEED DRINK BOOZE POP PILLS LET'S SMOKE WEED, POP PILLS, DRINK BOOZE AND SCREW WHORES. MY WOMAN/MAN LEFT ME, I'M PATHETIC MY WOMAN/MAN LEFT ME, SHE'S A BITCH/HE'S PATHETIC I'M HOT YOU'RE HOT SHE'S HOT DAMN IT'S HOT and so on. At the very least I believe that the application of STANDARDIZED_LYRIC substitution would provide artists with a tool by which to measure the originality of their pieces' lyrical content. This in and of itself could give the music industry's product the kick in the head it has needed for a long time now. Thank you. 020322 ...
