the initial shock of saumboo's blindness became for him similar to what a burn victim experiences, that is the disparate qualities and intensities of pain. first, it's the pain of discovery and recognition. then, it's the pain of acceptance. that is where we find saumboo now. with crumbling willingness, he had taken what was given him. yet, he was baffled, (and pardon the pun,) totally in the dark by the purpose. "nothing happens to us unless it is for a particular reason," he said, but he felt like he was lying to himself, although he didn't check his nose figuring he wouldn't be able to see it anyway. saumboo was exhausted by this string of unfortunate events. he felt empty as if his portion of sadness had leaked from his body. with it went any remaining energy. in a few moments, he was asleep on the hay of the garden shed. maddie the corgi marked him as territiry but saumboo did not know it. he dreamt he was a black and gold striped caterpillar and he had to explain to helmet wearing black ants in french why he was not a bee, all the while covering himself in gossamer he kept pulling out of a giant easter egg. but, he couldn't do it fast enough for the ants, not satisfied by his explanation, began to bite him. it was such a fucking nightmare that it woke him for its sheer, unflinching horror. when he opened his eyes, there was blackness and again he screamed, for life was now a nightmare that did not end. but there was this matter of something licking his face. it was not maddie the corgi as you probably thought. instead it was a brown and white spotted chihuahua, half the size of a domestic cat. startled, saumboo tried to say something but his first words out of troubled sleep were incoherent babble. "calm down," the chihuahua said, in spanish. he was wearing a black leather collar with silver spikes and a small yellow hat that would definately go well with a kate spade bag. "who are you?" saumboo asked, finding it frustrating as hell not to be able to see who he was talkng to. his anxiety was obvious and he was losing the battle to regain his composure. he reached out with trembling hands and felt the body of the small animal. "i'm your seeing eye dog," the chihuahua said, changing to broken, but acceptable english. "the name's puppertwinkle. boffden sent me."
