This proverb contains the secrets of success. Not just agricultural success, but physical, intellectual, spiritual, emotional and relational success. To Sew means to labor in your field planting seeds, preparation is included since you must till the ground. Maintenence is implied because you must nurture the crop as it approaches maturity. To Reap means to gather your harvest at the appropriate time. When your crop is mature, when the fruit is ripe. I find it interesting that life, whether it be a complex form such as humanity, or a simpler form such as an apple tree, obey this same pattern_of_fruition. If you want to reap a big harvest in either one, you've got to make the time and commit yourself to growing it. Now this may seem obvious to some of us. But there a so many people out there who are mad at the world, angry at the cards they've been dealt, pissed off at the sky. If only they could be shown that their anger is what they are now planting in their fields (their minds). Those negative thoughts will incubate until they ripen and manifest themselves into reality in a violent rage of fruition. They won't realize why they act like this. They can't understand they don't get along with anyone. And they certainly won't take the time to reflect and observe that this outburst is affecting those that are exposed to it, friends, family, children. Everything you allow yourself to experience is planted into your subconscious mind. EVERYTHING. Why sew seeds of bitterness, which only reaps destruction? Is it because you have convinced yourself that "people don't change"? Why not instead sew seeds of goodness? Pay a compliment. Have a constructive attitude. Be happy. Throw away your handful of pain and reap a harvest of Life_to_the_fullest. In your other pocket, you'll find you've had seeds of light there all along.

In a classic story called "Jack and the Beanstalk", Jack sold a cow for some magic bean seeds. The little theif of giants grew a huge beanstalk plant. You don't know Jack 'sewed' and reaped some golden coins, a hen that laid golden eggs, and a magic harp. How crazy.
