I saw a man in the Sahara desert Who shot camels with his old rifle Once he saw a big hump And aimed for it and shot But it was the Cheik's daughter...

(dude....how the fuck did you smoke 3 packs a day? i've only ever been able to do about 1/2 pack a day at my worst) the first pack of cigarettes i ever bought; ended up giving them to a friend and smoking cloves for a few years. but once i had a full blown nicotine addiction and couldn't wait to get to a smokeshop, i went back to the camels. i smoke camel wide lights now that cigarettes are $7 a goddamn pack since i get more cigarette for the money. it's the polack in me. i smoke them all the way down to the filter; although now that it's cold out and you finally can't smoke inside in wisconsin, i short cigarettes a lot more.

When i was at my peak smoking habit, i literally never went more than a few minutes without a cig in my mouth...when i started at my old tech job one of my first assignments was in shipping/receiving so we worked by an open loading dock and could dance around the no smoking rule because we were never entirely inside so it was "do stuff, have a cig, do some more stuff, have another cig and another cig then do a bunch of stuff then more cigs" also, back then, in that group of people, there was a certain amount of competition to see who could smoke the foulest, most brutal cigarettes out there, i came in 3rd with the old-fashioned no-filter Camels, my supervisor was 2nd with the Lucky Strikes and his assistant took the cake smoking Pall Malls with the filters deliberately cut off...sweet jesus, i've puffed off second hand roll-ies that weren't as disgusting. this was also back when smokes were still barely a little more than a buck a pack, if i had the same habit today as i did all those years ago, i'd be dropping the bulk of my paycheck on tobacco pure masochism, all of it...anybody got a light?

both my dad's parents smoked unfiltered camels. my grandma still does. (my grandpa died with a tumor the size of a baseball in his lung, but he smoked for 70 years) i think that's part of the reason why i bought camels all those years ago and part of the reason why i thought they were gross at the time. all that second_hand at grandma's house and the good old familiar packaging got to me.

meanwhile, i can attest to the truth of the saying that it is easier to quit heroin than nicotine. I've only had to quite opiates once, i have quit smoking 13 times in 17 years, at 6 months this is now my 3rd longest smoke-free period
