This key has lots of important uses! In windows 95/98 you need to unlock a frozen application ever 10 min or so. What better way than to CTRL+ALT+DEL and kill the wayward app? Save having to reset/reboot, at least for a little while. Eventually you start to blue screen or windows just can't recover, even with the power to kill apps that are misbehaving. Bill Gates is a fucking dickhead. In windows NT, you cannot use the computer without logging in. To open the login dialog you have to hit CTRL+ALT+DEL. This is also an option in Win2K, and maybe XP (which I have avoided like a bad migraine). No ALT key, no way to use the computer. My favorite is using the ALT key to assign "hotkey" macros to shortcuts. Basically, the whole START menu is just a list of shortcuts. Also, any web page or document can be assigned a shortcut. Shortcuts in the start menu or desktop can be given at CTRL+ALT+ assignment that opens the shortcut. Try this: (this is using IE, but I'm sure you can do this with other browsers too) Click "who" to fire off a "who blathes" page. Make the browser a movable window so you can see the desktop Drag the little Explore icon out of the Address field and onto the desktop. This will make a shortcut to the "who blathes" page. Right click the shortcut, and find the tab that has the Shortcut Key field. Press CTRL and ALT and W, which should set "CTRL+ALT+W" in the field, and setting a short cut key. Use "OK" to save your change. Now, whenever you hit CTRL+ALT+W your web browser should go to the who blathes page. Yes, I know I'm a geek. I love it.

cripes, I forgot about ALT+TAB - same use as above, only you just change to another window. Have a nice word doco open, and some blather in another window, and in comes the boss? ALT+TAB and bango, bather goes, work comes to the front, and you're neck is saved from firing. You can continue to kiss corporate ass and toil for the man.
