epitome of incomprehensibility ...January. I was more anxious than I am now, actually.

Anxious about having less $ because of losing the admin work. Anxious because of the two anniversaries.

Theoretically not selfish_worry, but it seemed kind of presumptuous to get anxious about things in the past that didn't affect me personally. In a way? Does that make sense??

e_o_i I mean, I probably wouldn't be a target for religion-based genocide as white person raised Christian.

Yes, inter-religious violence is a thing, e.g. Christians vs Muslims in Nigeria (both sides pretty brutal).

It's just that in the last century, religious prejudice seems to have been at its worst when combined with ethnic prejudice - even if the religious group in question isn't actually ethnically homogeneous. (Is any group ethnically homogeneous? Probably not.)

That's why it was so scary to think about the 3rd anniversary of the Quebec City mosque shooting (Jan. 29) two days after the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz (Jan. 27).

You wouldn't necessarily have heard of the Quebec City shooting outside of Canada. "Only" six people were killed; internationally, it was overshadowed by the deadlier shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Yes, it's a different world than in World War 2 - no worldwide war, mainly. But with the increasing Islamophobia worldwide, would Final Solution Part 2 be part of World War 3? Or would we just all become radioactive dust, like they thought in the 60s?

I mean this is all just extrapolating from the past. But that's kind of what I was afraid of back in January. And in early February, with U.S. at the brink of war with Iran.

And of course there have been many other false alarms. Here on blather, the thread world_war_three was started on 9_11_01 and the thread world_war_3 with the war on Iraq. Thousands of deaths, but no world_war_iii (because THAT one was mostly kx21 newslinks - okay, what a time to be flippant, but I need some comic relief after writing all this).

ANYWAY. No 3rd world war yet.

Of course, I'm not going to be all, "Phew, ONLY a global pandemic." But look on the bright side! At least it isn't completely people's fault this time!
