dafremen Now I'm baffled. Who convinced us that we were wrong when, as children we would say, "It's my life"?

I look back in time to try to understand the root of man's authority over man. I inevitably come to the same conclusion: ego and fear spawned the seizing of our freewill and our acquiescence to that robbery.

Fear that we would not survive without numbers...by following the so-called strength of force.

Should I, as a free thinking individual, unafraid, allow my course through life to be dictated by fear? Should I, as a free willed being allow the dictates of another's ego forge chains against my ability to act as I would?

No. There are no guarantees that what is deemed safe and sane by the rest is right for me. There is no guarantee that the course chosen FOR me is any better than the course I would choose for myself. And who better knows the correct path for me to follow than I do?

If my conscience dictates that I do no harm..then I will do no harm. And if another's conscience dictates otherwise...then let THEM live with their decision..and let me..in absolute faith that the universe knows its ways better than I, live with the consequences that the world, NOT LAW, would heap upon me as a result of those decisions which I oppose. Much the way that I face those consequences now, as I walk between the lines and the signs which dictate my daily travel..mold my behavior.

I have infinitely more reasons to trust the motives of the world than I do to trust the motives of men. The world gave me life. The world gave me freedom. The world gives me the air that I breath and the food that I eat and the water that I drink. What has man done but to pervert and destroy these things?

And so I ask you again, society...who made YOU God? It certainly wasn't me.

henry david thoreau I heartily accept the motto, -- "that government is best which governs least;" and I should like to see it acted upon more rapidly and systematically. Carried out, it finally amounts to this, which also I believe, -- "That government is best which governs not at all;" and when men are prepared for it, that will be the kind of government which they will have. 080916
