kira's_dad
werewolf Johnny thought Kira's dad was the happiest man in the world. He had, according to Kira, gone through abject suffering when his Kira's mom had left - but now he always had this look on his face of a man who had almost been swallowed by life, but had recovered, been granted a reprieve, as if a gun had been pointed at his head and fired a lucky blank. The look on his face made all of Johnny's doubts, sadnesses, and thoughts of surrender seem a jumped to conclusion. The only time Kira's dad seemed sunken again were those nights when Kira had gone out to meet Johnny leaving him in a darkening doorway. This was when Johnny was still equated in his mind with the outside, with danger. Johnny often thought what it would mean to plunge that face again into the grooves of its deepest frowns and then beyond anytime he was on the verge of hurting Kira or sending her to the wrong life by his own choices, be they right or wrong for him. He had asked Kira's dad nce when it was he became happy again. Kira's dad related a story of how he had been driving and was singing quite sincerely Air Supply's I'm all out of love, i'm so lost without you, i know you were right believing for so long. His voice had cracked and he saw the ridiculousness of it that suddenly. The song itself was silly he said. beautiful and silly because it was so right on - the just...the silliness and the inescapable sincerity of it. we're all stuck with feelings we know are overwrought, short lived, mountains out of molehills, but which are also our only mountains. And he realized then that he still had Kira and that no matter how unloved you were in life - you could still love another as long as you're living, you can still work for them, live for them. Johnny remembered clearly Kira's dad saying next - "and without ever asking anything back and it wasn't as empty as people supposed because a part of you inside yourself that wished such love existed - that held humanity to such standards would love you deeply. The love of god or the esteem of the right path or some other such nonsense." He had said this smiling the whole time. He could talk about how he hated work, or how the world was on the verge of collapse, but he always seemed peaceful. 040511
