bourbonism
|
|
Q
|
In modern times, bourbonism is belief in the healing power of a moderate amount of a whiskey distilled from a mash made up of not less than 51 percent corn plus malt and rye. Yes, it is something to believe in. It worked for me last night as I struggled to overcome a spring cold.

If I ever drink myself to death, I'm going to choose whiskey.

for a good while, my favourite retreat was within the confines of any convenient bottle of 100-proof Southern_Comfort i could get my hands on. In the space of a year i had built quite the liquor_bottle_graveyard atop the shelf, and a candle in each one left my house bright whenever the power went out

no, you must be kidding! this very night i have imbibed the whiskey, in an attempt to overcome a spring cold: per the recommendation of dear old dad! (else, i'd never have tried using alcohol to cure something non-bandagable)

Hey, you gotta listen to your dear old Dad! Actually, whether bourbon helps with colds is debatable. People recover from more than 99.999% of colds if they do nothing but manage to keep breathing for a couple of days. But it certainly seems to help - at least it seems to have for many a year for me. Perhaps the help is in accelerating recovery some compared with doing nothing but managing to keep breathing. Besides downing a bourbon once in awhile is usually okay in its own right. In moderation the stuff seems to spark some creativity and, in the right circumstances, sociability. But the key word is "moderation." Otherwise ethanol, from any source, is very bad poison for body and mind.

a good hot tea with a generous splash of bourbon, lemon and honey does clear the head and chest nicely for a while... quite soothing too. or skip the tea but keep the lemon and honey... astonishingly good for that sort of thing.

he woke up every morning and almost directly after getting out of bed poured himself a glass of bourbon and smoked a cigarette. he couldn't face the day without it. now he just smokes a lot of pot instead.
