sarcastic_delimiters
cube It seems that sarcastic comments are being missed or misinterpreted, leading to misunderstandings. There is a move afoot to create obvious symbols or acronyms in order for blathers to easily identify sarcasm.

Bizzer has suggested ISTH for Insert Sarcastic Tone Here (perhaps SST for Start Sarcastic Tone would be easier to remember). User24 followed up with EST for End Sarcastic Tone. I have suggested using a symbol such as '§' [Alt+21] at the beginning and/or end of the comment.

Do you think delimiters are necessary and if so what else might be considered?

User24 i think that that § is a good idea, and support the motion. eg;

§yeah, I love it§

User24 perhaps more general lightheartedness should be included in the delimiters, eg

Alt-15 - ¤

¤no, that's a silly idea¤

indicates that I'm not being mean or downright nasty, just half joking

User24 perhaps using a different delimiter 030331

Bizzar I think that no matter what we use its going to confuse people and lead to yet more misunderstandings. But at least the few who stumble upon this page will be informed.

I guess thats a start.

I also like the idea of the §

(That was sincere) haha

Mordechai Latte §great work, kids, keep it up§ 030331

Bizzar I guess that means it works? haha 030331

User24 of course, if we use isth and est, people on blather could click them and see what they mean, whereas "§" is just confoozing. 030401

Bizzar Another very good point. This is getting way too complicated. Lol. 030401

cube I've been holding something back. I think readers should be able to identify the tone of sarcasm in the writing. If the sarcasm isn't evident to the reader then either the writer needs practice or the reader is ignorant of the subject.

There, we can all go back to blathing as before and forget about delimiters...

screwing for virginity look brawder than just blather (i know it hurts me to do that too). i think that the english language itself needs a sarcasm puncuation.

"but people should be able to tell when others are being sarcastic"
true, but they should be able to tell when poeple are asking questions or being exited, but we have question marks and exclimation points.

so i move to make a sarcasm mark, or do away with question marks and exclimations (i myself already do te later).
