Normally I use complete thoughts, but when I'm really tired "meh" works for me. I use it to convey general exhaustion at having to think.
This is my choice of syllable, my friends have been known to use "puh" or "arg" as well.

Meh. You see? Apparently the poor little cows don't care about their imminent end. There: I have justification for not becoming a vegetarian.
But in terms of etymology, the word seems to have been popularized by both the Internet and The Simpsons.
