If only we would take the time to learn the strengths and weaknesses of the people in our lives, perhaps we could avoid many of the countless irritations, annoyances and miscommunications that are the real basis of suffering in human society. It's as if it never occurs to us that others may not share our strengths or priorities. We often fail to recognize that people's words, feelings and actions are dictated by a set of values and perspectives which, although often distinctly different from our own, are just as valid. We seem to see neither the abilities that others possess which we do not value, nor the abilities that they may lack which we take for granted because we were born with them. Some folks aren't very good at sensing other people's feelings, others aren't very good at making decisions and still others can't seem to curb their impulses. These are real disabilities for them. Still, we find it hard to imagine another person's behavior in any context but that of our own experience and our current situation. Imagine for a moment, that you have a friend or aquaintance who is always slow. They are never on time and you find yourself constantly waiting for them because they are constantly late. Imagine that wherever you go with this person, you always have to drag your feet because they are always moving along at a PAINFULLY slow pace. Can't you feel your irritation in this situation, especially after YEARS of putting up with the poking along and the inconsiderate tardiness? Can't you imagine your annoyance and anger after they are late for the umpteenth time? Why can't they just hurry up a little bit more? Why aren't they more considerate of YOUR time and YOUR feelings? Now imagine that one day you stumble across a book while waiting for them. Imagine that you open the book and inside you read the following sentence: "Your friend has no legs." How would your perspective change as a result? Where would your anger be then? Astrology is that book. Humanity is that friend. 030301 ...
