...when I was a little girl, I used to think that I could sneak upon the world, and catch it doing unthinkable things. I would stand just inside the door, to my home, and then in a sudden burst of movement, I would fling the door open, and pounce out onto the deck! I would give our property the once over, with my skeptical eye, and then look toward the sky. I was just convinced that there were things going on out there, behind my back. I was also convinced, that one day, I would catch the world in a state of chaos - to which I would scream: "Aha!" I didn't have any plans beyond the initial discovery. Hey, I was a child! I just wanted the Earth to know that I knew! Regardless, I knew, without a doubt, that the world ran amuck, when I wasn't looking. Actually, it still does...

Way down the track, made the wrong turn, Finished up where I started, You noticed a change come over me, Fell in love with my own reflection yeah, How does it feel beneath your own wheel, Feels like an accident waking up, Under a bus with my fingers crossed, Now is the time we could make it up, So you lost the fear it wasn't that bad, Left to your own devices yeah, Still a young girl eyes on the clock, Tick like a motor running out, Magnets and words up on the fridge, Speak to the poet in all of us, I missed the page that you thought about, Drew in the frost on the windowpane, But who I wonder could fail to notice, The aching silence came down, I'm humble know, I hope you might come back, In your own time, Left to your own devices, And so, that's how it goes, Never the first, Always the last to know
