a lot harder than it looks, methinks 1. taste steak. i used to like it well done, but since buying exclusively from the local butcher, i'm turning over to medium-rare. juicy, iron-filled goodness. i could never go veggie. i think that if i buy free range/organic meat whenever i can, that's a fair compromise. i pay 1.5 to 2 times as much, get a better taste and a clearer conscience. bargain. 2. touch nakedness. 3. smell i have a really bad sense of smell, but among my favorites are weed, thyme, lemongrass, myrrh, nag_champa and old_books 4. sound bass. it's a two for one. great sound and great feeling. bass is great. it holds songs together, you can feel it. arhh. impossible to explain. go listen to living in darkness by top buzz, fuck the pain away by peaches, tanz mit leibach, by leibach or any decent dnb track. you'll know it when you feel it. 5. sight a hundred things. the moon. the sea. too many other things. peaceful things. i don't know. awesome things.

1. taste: salty skin. sweat condensed. 2. touch: being fleshy minded, the feeling of hipbone beneath that thin layer of skin comes immediately to mind. cats in my lap is a close second, the immaculately groomed inimitable softness, the sized-down skeletons dancing under fingers. giving a cat a massage as you stroke it is one of my pleasures in life, because vicarious does not lessen the feeling when a creature is truly open. rose petals being stroked softly, before the attention melts their fragile membranes. 3. smell the rose gardens of portland are a triumph unto themselves, and in my mind because of the last question. garlic and rosemary comes as well. coffee and bacon waking up first thing in the morning. the earth turned by the first drops of rain. lily of the valley. 4. sound "mmmm" from a cared for's throat, all purring and happiness. the purring of a cantankerous cat, momentarily completely content. rain on a window, lulling me to sleep. uninhibited joyous laughter. 5. sight the color the bottom of the sky turns at the end of sunset. visible sparkle in an eye. the green of spring about to be summer. blue and red background of text that moves the soul. the playground slopes of four points of a lover's body; hips, clavicle, upper arm, ankle. deep vibrant reds. lipstick smears of light reflected on rivers.

1. taste - probably my grandma's homemade lasagna. no matter how bad my day is, it always cheers me up. 2. touch - waking up and feeling my girlfriend in my arms. feels as though everything in the world is how it should be. 3. smell - fresh home baked apple pie right out of the oven. another smell that reminds me of home. 4. sound - downpour rain on the roof. it puts my mind at ease and lets me think about life. 5. sight - my girlfriend's smile. another one of those things that always brightens my day.

ok this is hard. might have to cheat and put a couple down instead of just the one. 1. taste - the smoky-oak flavour of Jack Daniel's over ice with coke. the zing of fruit like lemon or orange or grapefruit when one is feeling the effects of certain substances. 2. touch - skin on skin. nakedness is always amazing. but also so is the feel of holding hands, that link that holds you together amidst a melee of people. kissing. 3. smell - the smell of that aftershave he used to use when we first met, mingling with the smell of his skin and the subtle smell of his cold room. if i ever smell that aftershave when i'm out it triggers all these bittersweet memories. 4. sound - music. it differs on my mood, but there's nothing more beautiful than listening to amazing songs with incredible people 5. sight - the small things that you see in life that make you realise how beautiful the world around you actually is. they don't have to be planed landscapes and scattered waterfalls; they can be seen in the curve of an arm, a glance, a pink daisy glimmering amidst white and green, a frosted spiderweb, raindrops plopping into brimming puddles.

favor is mercurial. it changes depending on who i am at the time the question is asked. i choose to view this question as a request for an index of my mood, rather than a list of immutable truths. in that spirit, today: 1. my favored taste is green tea ice cream. the super-saturated kind with a real kick. the balance of bitterness over the mild, fatty sweetness which is also cold, is very appealing right now. i wish i had some now. 2. today the flannel lining in my gloves was most welcome. it is like revisiting childhood's unassuming comforts. those moments of warmth and lazy, lingering peacefulness which passed un emphasized, but are tremendous in the inner film that is nostalgia, live in such tactile experiences. 3. pine tree resin and the humid earth of deep summer forests are almost always a favored smell. they come to mind today. 4. a cat purring against my face as i sleep is a sound that i love. it elicits feelings of languor and that sweet adoration that felines can bestow upon us. 5. polarized light on water, ice, or a dynamic surface like wind-blown grasses is a memory of a sight which occurred to me immediately. i like how light "blooms" and becomes an object at the edges of things and the boundaries between places. i can be a beautiful sight.

1. taste many... the subtle mix of sweet and savory in Chinese BBQ pork, the vaguely cinnamon aftertaste of smoking a clove cigarette after eating a bit of good dark chocolate. The notes of citrus in a good cannoli, cold sweet iced tea 2. touch petting my cats in the morning, tracing my fingertips over a woman's bare shoulders (etc, ) 3. smell my kitchen when i'm cooking, the combined smell of cigarette smoke, perfume and sweat that i remember from so many nights 4. sound heavy rain, the crackle and hiss of vinyl records, cat purring, other sounds (ahem...) 5. sight kittens, wildflowers, rainclouds, good food, bare flesh

{things that {would} make me happy} 1. {taste} ice cream does it for me, every single time. something about eating with a spoon reminds me of being an infant, or even just a child hanging a spoon on their nose. it's silly & fun & always makes me giggle. 2. {touch} i like feeling body heat, whether it's a good friend, a lover, or a big doggy. warmth, comfort, contentment. i like it when he plays with my hair. 3. {smell} a woman in my university poetry class wrote a poem about things you think about when you're on an airplane when the air is stale & cold. one of those things was baking bread, & ever since then i have a great appreciation for that smell. it also reminds me of living in j's studio apartment right next to the wonder bread factory. provided me with some poems of my own reminiscing about the smell of baking bread. 4. {sound} it sounds good to pound on a piano when i know what i'm doing (only sometimes). i also like yelling jibberish. people forget how to be a child & just let inner emotions come out without cohesive language. 5. {sight} those blue eyeballs. i also like looking in the mirror & admiring what i see. that doesn't happen a lot, but when it does, it's epic. i like powerful artwork as well. colored lights, confetti, banners, but noiselessly so. i like watching people dancing, or afternoons where the light is yellow & bouncing off everything beautifully.

1. taste metalic. sweet and tinny. almost bitter, but not quite. like the sweetbitterness of black licorice. the smell of rust that invades your mouth by accident. 2. touch anything that envelops. a million grains of rice in the raw. kneading, up to your wrists in bread dough. dipping a dry hand into a pool of water and feeling the pull of the wet on your skin. 3. smell clean. rainwashed pavement. cut grass, water-softened so much so that you can smell the green and the earth. a day so fresh you can smell the cold in the air. 4. sound subtle and muted. the sound of rain hitting a broad green tree leaf. resonant. sitting too close to a cello, bow drawn. the vibrations so loud your heart rattles your ribs and your fingers shake. harmonic disonance. idioteque. 5. sight epic. reaching waves of ocean beach at cloudy dusk. purple and endlessly rolling. anything that reminds me that i am only one of many, but at the same time, utterly singular.

the favorite memory of my mother is when i was 5. she was so beautiful. she knew how to dress and look good. i used to hold her hand thinking she was my girlfriend. the favorite art on my wall is a watercolor pencil drawing of a wood duck that my dad did when he was recovering from a mental illness. the favorite thing out my window is the horses, safely behind the fence, waiting for morning chop and hay.

1. more difficult than it should be, given how short the list of good memories are where she's involved. i'd say the time she got drunk off a single wine cooler (the woman has no alcohol tolerance at all) and started dancing with the dog and singing "let's twist again" by chubby checker in a hilariously gruff voice, while my young sisters looked at her with eyes that asked, "where did you come from, and why can't you stay?" she was a lot of fun when she got tipsy, and a sense of humour revealed itself, however briefly. 2. the painting of miles davis above the piano in the "studio" area. a nice unexpected find, that was, and it feels like it was made for the room. 3. the lone tree on the front lawn across the street, with its three thorny fingers outstretched.
