i read somewhere that there's no mirror that can reflect completely accurately. ever stand in front of a mirror with someone else? when you look in the mirror, then back at them, you aren't seeing the same image. so everyone else gets to see what i really look like, and i'll never know.

10,000 years ago on the Steppes of Central Asia, There Exisited a Nomadic Culture Of Horsemen that wove fine Fabric From Hemp, wore Blue Tattoos, and Buried their Dead with the things that they would need in the Next Life. Among these objects was usually a Mirror. It is my speculation that the Mirror, Commonly worn around the neck on a cord) Was not for the purpose of Vanity, But rather was used for Communication Accross the wide Grasslands that they Controled. Flashing the Sunlight To their Kinsmen Miles away To Aid in the Hunt, Or to Wage War Against those who would Encroach on their Realm. But I Need a Time Machine to Know if My Assumptions are True. I Await 9-21-03

Mirror By Sylvia_Plath I am silver and exact. I have no preconceptions. What ever you see I swallow immediately Just as it is, unmisted by love or dislike. I am not cruel, only truthful--- The eye of a little god, four-cornered. Most of the time I meditate on the opposite wall. It is pink, with speckles. I have looked at it so long I think it is a part of my heart. But it flickers. Faces and darkness separate us over and over. Now I am a lake. A woman bends over me, Searching my reaches for what she really is. Then she turns to those liars, the candles or the moon. I see her back, and reflect it faithfully. She rewards me with tears and an agitation of hands. I am important to her. She comes and goes. Each morning it is her face that replaces the darkness. In me she has drowned a young girl, and in me an old woman Rises toward her day after day, like a terrible fish.

when i look in the mirror i don't see my charming personality, my witty sense of humor, my style or music taste. when i look in the mirror i don't see the experiences i've had and how they've shaped my perceptions and how i act around other people. when i look in the mirror i don't see my heart or my soul. when i look in the mirror i don't see any future of any kind. when i look in the mirror all i see is a toothy flesh bag with oil and hair and creepy eyes. when i look in the mirror i can see why it's just me in the mirror and not someone with me.
