If nothing else, photography teaches you to really look. Holding a camera causes me to look higher, lower and the other direction. You learn to read people's faces. This allows you to anticipate their actions. For example, a coach usually tenses up right before he yells at the referee. A singer's eyes will glaze over a bit right before a really difficult note. It's a curse and a blessing. Some people don't like it because it makes them feel like they can't hide anything, like you can read their thoughts.
