epitome of incomprehensibility

I didn't want to complain about a certain person in this space, because he's taken up too much of the general discourse already, but this is about a word and I take words SERIOUSLY, dammit. Mr. Trump, a note on usage: "Invasion" has a more specific meaning than "going somewhere you're technically not allowed to." Thought experiment. You're in a college lecture hall of about 200 people. In this college, you're not allowed to audit courses, but a young man named Bob who isn't in this class comes in and sits down, quietly, for the duration of the lecture. Technically, Bob's not allowed to be there, and if the prof noticed or cared she could kick him out. She doesn't. The class goes as it usually does. Is this an invasion of the classroom? Maybe if Bob started yelling and making a fuss. But he doesn't. He just sits there for the duration of the class. Oh, oh, but is he using up class resources? Well, I'm glad you asked. In fact, he does take advantage of his presence there to get a donut some Improv Club students are selling just outside the door. Suuuure, he PAID for that donut, but he might not have gotten it if he hadn't been hanging around the classroom, right? And he also sat at a desk! Okay, there were a few empty seats, but what's if there hadn't been and some students who came in late couldn't get a seat? You never know!! ...Etc. No, this metaphor isn't perfect, and illegal/irregular immigration is more "staying someplace for the wrong length of time or without the proper documents" than "not being allowed to go someplace at all." And xenophobia often plays a part in who's wanted and who's not. So yeah. I'm not an expert on this topic, but I can confidently say that immigrants coming into a country without the right documentation does not equal an "invasion." My good American friend, Merriam-Webster the 11th, says "invade" means 1 : to enter for conquest or plunder 2 : to encroach upon : INFRINGE 3a : to spread over or into as if invading : PERMEATE "doubts invade his mind" b : to affect injuriously and progressively "gangrene invades healthy tissue" Who's coming into the U.S. for conquest or plunder? Oh, yes, right, the Mexicans. And they're not bringing their best! They bring drugs, crime; they're dividing things by zero!! Especially if they're four years old, so you just have to lock them up, to prevent them from doing that evil dividing-by-zero-ness!!! "Invade." Yeesh. You'd have more luck with the word "trespass," but that isn't quite as inflammatory, is it?

Today I invaded the road before the light turned green. I also invaded a bulletin board with a flier from the tutoring centre (okay, if it were up to me I wouldn't do that, why clutter up space with ads, but... work.)
