I'm trying to get the "polite, but firm" aspect right. To be heard without being an ass. Of course, ya can't always get what ya want (but it might be worth a try). The situation: this university's office for students with disabilities automatically booked my midterm in a different room than the other students. That upset me a lot. I don't know why. The last straw, because one more thing to remember? Or maybe it's the pernicious idea that needing help is shameful? That'd be silly of me. And I kind of resent that Concordia doesn't offer what I had at the last school I went to: counseling at least twice a month from their students with disabilities office. THAT made the biggest difference for me. Pah. What do you do when you have the type of ADHD that makes you bad with time organization, but not usually short-term focus? Register with the accommodations office and then turn down any help they offer? Maybe I'm just afraid of new things. New rooms! Aah! Scary! And this is very first-world-problem of me. Well, here's the email: Hello ACSD team, I received a notice yesterday about a change of classroom for my [class name] midterm. Is it possible to cancel this? I would prefer to have all of my exams in the same room as the other students, and with the same time allowance, unless I speak with someone to request a change ahead of time. Thank you so much!! I realize you are dealing with a large volume of students, and I believe the room change was automatically applied based on a request I made concerning an online class in the spring, but usually I don't need extra time. It would be more stressful for me to write my exams in different rooms (I have ADHD and it helps me if time/place details are kept simple and routine). Plus, I want to make sure there is space for people who need it. Please let me know once this is confirmed. If you need to speak with me first, please let me know. Thank you again, [name] Ha, you also get to see how stilted my writing is when I'm being formal. And I need sleep.

(But first, let me giggle at the juxtaposition with what tilt wrote above. Dealing with bureaucracy is my shocking erotic fantasy. Ooh yeah. HARDER! And MORE DIFFICULT!)

Oh, it was simpler than I thought. I didn't have to make such a production of it! But it was good to contact them. The person answering wrote that the office hadn't finished tweaking the opt-out system yet and it'd be available on the student website soon. However, since I asked, he updated my file himself. So I'm still registered with the access centre, but I get to have in-person exams in the same rooms. Phew. ... And nr, ask me anything you like! I may be bad at answering quickly, but I'll try to be thorough (i.e., way more wordy than you need). :P

"i had to leave early," the boss's boss's boss wrote, "please provide your notes." he looked at his empty table, gulped embarassedly, and tried desperately to recall what was discussed a mere hour ago.
