Arrrgh. So frustrating, and my avoidance doesn't help. I finally got the main part of my application out to U of Vienna, but I'm not sure it will work this time.
The first thing I worried about didn't turn out to be a problem: the program I applied to is in English, so the form asked for proof of proficiency. For a while I worried I'd have to take a TOEFL exam or something even though English is my first language. It wouldn't be so unheard-of: I had two students for an intermediate English course, both immigrants from Europe, and they had to take a French exam to get some kind of Quebec permit. The country they come from? France!! ...Anyway, turns out for this I just need proof that I did at least two years of higher education in English.
But then there was something about getting an "apostille" for transcripts. This is basically a stamp from the government certifying the documents are official. But I'm not 100% sure that's what they mean or it's a translation issue. Again, it could just be something they're asking for if the original document is in a language that's not German or English...or maybe it was that the official translation requirement was waived if it's an English document. Maybe I still need the apostille thing. Problem is, I looked that up and it turns out I'd need separate ones from Quebec and Ontario, since I've gone to universities in both provinces.
If the U of W/V goes, Nope, you have to get that, I won't have enough time before the July 31 deadline, and I won't be able to go in October.
But I'm not sure I'm ready anyway. I'm not sure I'd be able to afford it this year. It'd still feel a little bad, though, getting rejected this year on a technicality.
