the last time that the cold is enjoyable, halloween floating like a promise at the end, a whole month of things creeping and bleeding and leaping out from dark corners. when everything goes to sleep, leaves falling like phoenix feathers.

the best time of the year in the northern hemisphere. sometimes i get a trace of it here and there...in a certain taste or smell. it is the time of first firewood burning, smoke ribbons hanging in the air, and moonlit walks through the leaves.

Bonfires burning bright, Pumpkin faces in the night, I remember Halloween. Dead cats hanging from poles, Little dead are out in droves, I remember Halloween. Brown leafed vertigo, Where skeletal life is known, I remember Halloween. This day anything goes, Burning bodies hanging from poles, I remember Halloween, Halloween Candy apples and razor blades, Little dead are soon in graves, I remember Halloween. This day anything goes, Burning bodies hanging from poles, I remember Halloween misfits

driving down 82 we both agreed how beautiful it was as the wind leaked through the hood of his convertible. the kicking leaves, the rain puddles, the red of fall. i still remember walking down that old street in my neighborhood where no one had raked in weeks shuffling through the big piles of drying detritus. and the old lady in her moomoo on the big old porch. this october feels a little strained, but we both agreed that it was definitely beautiful.

Today I've been twice times ten, Alive and breathing in my pen, Where I pace and stomp and squeal With a privatized provider's zeal. Mistress of the light who guides my pen - I beseech you - waltz with me again!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Don't know why I always think that occurs on th3 1st of September when I have proof to the contrary. *shrugs* Oh well it matters not in the big scheme of things weather or not _I_ remember his birthday as this wont ever be seen and yet however it matters to _me_ that I remembered. I take pride in remembering things about him. Even if doing so is of little to no practical use. .

Ooof. It feels unfair to dislike a month. In the past, there were good things to enjoy about this month. Raves and birthdays. But now, its the gloomiest of months for me. The clocks change. Darkness arrives. The cold starts to bite. I dont know why I'm feeling it more this year - maybe because summer felt so long. But October is definitely the hardest month. Not quite sure if its cold or warm. Heavy jacket or not. Winter duvet or not. Rain. So much uncertainty.

The swifts have all passed through journeying down to warmer climes yet the leaves above me aren't turning gold they crumble and brown, withering into flakes The lack of crisp chill autumn nights Denies them their splendid robes Wiping sweat from my brow with swollen hands I continue along the trail set in ages past insects buzz and drone, take flight calling through the tall grasses And what little breeze greets me Carries a hint of embers and ash The trickle of water opens to lake I climb down the bank to rocky bottom skirting the mud and swatting flies to see the puddles of trapped fishes they scurry and thrash in my shadow but escape cannot take them far I wonder if they feel trapped If their small hearts race in the pool And I wonder, briefly, too If I should feel trapped

I'm going to miss you for a very trivial reason: I like turning your capital O into a pumpkin - fattening it, adding internal lines and a stem - even if I truncate the rest of you to Oct. Oct. 31, best pumpkin. It's for the hallowed eve of Halloween, even if I'm non-observant and unobservant about it this year.
