matters
raze this is van dyke parks talking about brian_wilson:

"what i've lost with the death of brian is a witness. a person who was there. brian took an era with himof entertainment, meditative value in music, and an escape. and when he died, i got that. it's the corroborator. the person who remembers with me what matters to me, simply because we're holding onto the hem of melodies and music that matters."

what must it be like to outlive the person who trusted you to lend their voice the words they couldn't wring out of themselves? to be the pen that goes on spilling ink when the hand that held you won't form another fist?

the body rebuilds. the brain reroutes. but what of the heart? it spends all its years learning how to be broken and still will not surrender its province as the the imperfect metronome that governs and guides us.

the heart remembers what the mind can't bear to be alone with. and the scars seared into its sinew, spawned by loss and lamentation, keep the ghosts of all we've loved alive.
