The broken part of broken Are the missing shards ground to dust Fissures and fractures that never quite fit back together again. The bonds formed gluing broken to broken are stronger and more resilient. But the mark is permanent the material no longer uniform Broken will not be broken there again imperfections gleaming through polish Yet the broken whole holds tension It’s empty spaces filled Careful where you place your weight I am not as perfect as i wish i was

powdering my hair to fifty years plus. a white film encases black shirt sleeves, leaves thick lines across grey thighs. my dirty slippers tread it elsewhere like a baby crawling in talcum powder. dust of my childhood, dust of beaten erasers out the back door and coughing. fine particulate in the floorboards, on every settled surface, in the very air i breathe. there will always be dust where there are artificial layers to polish away.
