your rules and cell phones and microwaves are no match against me and my painted toenails and my dark hair. one day they will all understand what it is we have to offer, even if right now it looks like the queen of hearts with her corner ripped off. i wanted to jump off a bridge, just to watch the ripples flow, my ripples, something i had created that would smack against the shoreline. in creating the waves of water, i would be disrupting the sky over and over, like we had been mortal enemies my whole life. i have always wanted to disrupt the sky. i got my chance to the other day when i was playing poker with some jack rabbits. they kept cheating. i walked right along the edge of the shore and it reminded me of that counting_crows lyric: she walks along the edge of where the ocean meets the land just like she's walking on a wire in the circus. only i was walking where the sand turned blue. i didn't take the chance that other day, but i will soon. i am tired of living my life like a dying leaf, waiting to fall off the tree and see what's on the ground. because once i hit the ground you know i'm just gonna turn brown and somebody's going to rake me up and jump into the pile, like i jumped off that bridge, just for the ripples

a hole in the sky, a space in the air dream of clouds like ripples in a still pond spanish word for skyscraper is literally "sky scratcher" conjuring images of some enormous clawed hand scrabbling for purchase amid the empty air rascacielos
