cube Apparently nothing. I asked this because of an article I read recently; and I quote:

These days, the old courtship rules no longer apply. The notion of dating -- a boy asks a girl out for the evening and takes her to the movies -- is as dead as the eight-track tape.
What happens now is kids in high school head out in packs in hopes of "hooking up" at a party, a friend's house or anywhere semi-private. A hook-up happens when a girl and a guy get together for a physical encounter and don't necessarily expect anything further. A physical encounter can mean anything from kissing to oral sex to having sexual intercourse. Often, drinking is the catalyst for hooking_up.

And further:

But these sex-without-commitment liaisons -- also known as "buddysex" and "friends with benefits" -- are transforming the dating game.

Not having been in high school for awhile, I was wondering if anybody was in agreement...

minnesota_chris I've heard from parents that kids don't like to date gradually anymore... from acquaintances to friends to good friends to lovers, they jump from beginning to end immediately. I've seen this in a couple people I've dated. This is partly my own fault, of course. 030324

Tenon The friends with benefits thing never really worked for me. It did seem like a good idea at first though. But the whole relationship usually ended a month or two after taking that one step further, especially if none of was looking for a serious relationship. It felt like a one_night_stand with a friend, with whom I would eventually lose touch. 080522
