fyn gula after breakfast(of which everyone ate too much except maylay, who ate nothing because he was emotionally upset), nylem ran like a spider, that is if arachnids were unduly restricted to two legs, over to where the children were resting, gathered in groups according to ethnicity. he approached each collection and addressed them with respect to their native tongue.

"venga ver la marineta mostar." he said to the little ones from barcelona and seville. they smiled and stood to follow.
"venez voir la marionnette montrer," he said to the kids from marseille. they looked at each other with delight and gathered up their belongings.
"kommen sie die marionette sehen darzustellen," he told the boys and girls from bonn. they beamed with wonder.
"venire vedere il puppet mostrare." he said to the children from ferenze and milan. they jumped up and pushed each other to be first in line.

it made them all forget the pain of their captivity, even if it was a brief second of consideration. they hobbled over to where the giants, the surviving members of the minstrel band, and the four adventurers were gathered waiting for the show to begin. nylem led the way like a jim rose circus version of the pied piper.

there was an awkward silence when everyone sat down in front of copello's theatre. the children squirmed in their seats on the hard ground. nothing was happening. and then, just as nylem, eyes narrowed in prelude to doom, was about to react to the uncomfortable stillness, a minature 1935 ford pick-up drove out from behind the theatre. at the driver's seat was a dwarf, smoking a cigar, having a hard time with the steering. in the passenger's seat was a chimp dressed like a woman, lipstick smeared. in the bed, there was an odd set-up of pianos, the toy type that are usually played with one finger. but, these were being played by brownies, who have twelve fingers, and they were excellent. the song was a very cool version of "pop goes the weasel," and everytime it came to the "pop" part, bubbles and confetti blew out the back of the pick-up. soon everyone was covered and laughing, even maylay who somehow got caught up in the innocent happiness.
