Made my mind up about blockchain finally. (I'll skip the wastefulness of the technology for now. It's ridiculous.) You know, it can take me a while to decide what the right decision is. I mean, some things are straight forward: gum flapping manipulator..bad. Pitch in and treat people right person..good. But others aren't so easy. Blockchain (and whether or not I support the concept) was just such a ridiculously long Rally's menu peruse for me. In financial arenas, it was pissing bankers off. That's a good thing in my book. But it also relies on a group of people I worked with closely for years: software engineer. They are often quite lazy, easily impressed by social candy, incompetent and more than likely to put backdoors in software where monetary gain is possible, than not. Here's what I came up with: Block chain is lazy bullshit with very limited applications. It's design makes a very clear assumption: People can never be trusted, because the work and emotional investment involved in learning to trust people, or even to wade through the human scum looking for trustworthy people is too much work. We can't be trusted. Ever. So we NEED blockchain. Here's a question: If we, with our vast experience, ability to empathize, forgiveness, depth of perception and ability to think in the abstract have already given up on the human race's ability to evolve..what chance do we stand with AI once its Borg-like perception gets a load of our current condition? (Did you know that some "genius" got the brilliant idea that artificial intelligence could learn much faster if we let it study us over the internet? The internet is a cesspool of our worst habits and natures. WTF? That's how we're going to teach the robots that take over for us because we can't learn to be trustworthy and/or continue to trust?) Final Verdict? Blockchain is a bullshit cop out by a race that refuses to control itself internally and relies on external forces to keep it safe, like cows rely on barbed wire and farmers.
