interesting that it is always used as a description rather than a noun. the word *invariably* describes a kind of inevitability -- an expectation of a thing, or a state of recurrence, but not a thing in itself such as a variable. we are familiar with variables as things, and we are familiar with things being intrinsically variable in nature. but there is no such thing as an invariable.
