yay! i learned something of value. thank you, androgyne.
i'm especially fond of the side-effect of the term that it's another path rather than the "normal" one, eliminating the normal/deviant dichotomy of other sex/gender alignments.
one other odd effect that might not be felt much farther than mine own brain... there's a "specialness" to the minority sexualities (both in gender and orientation) that hereo sisgenders "lack"... there have been times i've almost felt apologetic for having female parts and gender identifying as female (though there's a fuck ton of androgyny loaded on that particular wagon, it does have a big red "f" painted on the side)... like i should be breaking some rules, shaking things up, having some non-traditional sexuality, and if i'm not then i'm a member of the oppressing party... sisgender is just another path, and straight people do not recoil in disgust at the thought of two boys boinking.
funny how judgement flows like that, all through things, the judged become the judges and everyone wears all the hats. hard wired monkey stuff to a certain degree; if we didn't make assumptions, there would simply be far too much information to process. you're assuming right now your kitchen is on fire because in the majority of your previous dealings with it, it hasn't been. this same type of thought holds for everything we take in; we only actively process a very small portion of the input we recieve, we don't have the cpu power to do otherwise. prejudice is the assumption that people of a certain group will be a certain way because of previous experiences. it takes retraining brain paths, conscious work, to stop doing this, to recognize assumptions and discard them, to see a person as a whole rather than as what groups they fit into.
