In a strange city where I know no one but the family I work for, I entered the coffee shop. The two young cute college boys working behind the counter flirted with me while I decided on a sweet, and I flirted back (and chose something filled with chocolate.) I read page after page of Absalom Absalom. I listened to the professors of the college discuss how powerful the APA is. I bought a ticket for 1 to the Darjeeling Limited and looked at all the couples before the previews. I laughed, but not as loudly as the man next to me. I left while the credits were rolling, and the music was playing something nostalgic and optimistic, and all the faces were still looking at the screen, and I felt touched with the sweetness. Outside it had cooled off and the rain came down and I sang to myself as I walked through the dark puddled alley to my rental. And the rain still falls as the cars drive by.

It's been following me- in LA before I left, then Chiang Mai, then Pai, and now Chiang Kong, on the edge of the Meekong marking the border between Thailand and Laos, I was doing yoga in the late afternoon regaining energy from all the dead animal flesh i've been eating, and the rain fell outside
