Do you believe that god is a man that sits in a thrown and rules a kingdom? Do you believe that god created man? Do you believe that god fathered a son? Do you believe that god has ever spoke to man? Do you believe that god uses words? Do you believe heaven is a place that you can see? Do you believe heaven is a place that you can be? Do you believe heaven is a place? Do you believe that god lives there, in heaven? Do you believe that god sits in heaven with omnipotent eyes and absolute will and manifests the destinies of the galaxies?

No, a man cannot create man. Only God can. No, a throan is much too lowly for Him. Yes, He did create man, and in His own image. His noblest(potentially) creation. Yes, His "Son" was His Messenger. Like rays of a sun. Yes, He spoke to man through those rays. Yes, He uses words that we can understand. Else what's the point? I don't know. Maybe we can see it with the eyes of our soul. Yes, we can be there for sure. Heaven is a state of being. A state of joy, glory, fulfilment. He does. He gave us free will, and the Universe to enjoy.

No, He wouldn't. My native tongue doesn't have "he" or "she" in it. Most languages don't. He already heard the thanks if you really said it.

my brother said him and his friend out in hawaii formulated this stoner religion, i'm not sure if they were stoned or on acid or both, and their definition of god is the sum total of all the energy in the universe, because energy is neither created nor destroyed. does that god care if you are grateful? does that god care that you appreciate him? *shrugs* i guess that is why buddhism has appealed to me for years. because there is no one god. but that any and all of us have 'god' inside of us waiting for us to develop that light and share it with others. and there is no heaven and hell, only the practically infinite search of setting the 'god' inside of us free. i believe that god is the inherent good in humanity. some of us carry around more of god than others and even the holy have inherently unholy days and deeds. i believe that god wants ALL of us to be happy. that's a mindblowing thought to me sometimes though; that god wants even ME to be happy.

Your brother and I do seem to think alike. That's what I was talking about with the_spark_at_the_start and energy_is_real. I think that at some point a very long time ago there must have been nothing. The way suns burn out space is so empty and planets seem to die, as ours will someday. I see that the universe can't last forever so it can't have been here forever and must have came into existace at somepoint. In order for it to have come into existance it must have come from some thing, energy. A big push, the_spark_at_the_start, "the big bang". A lot of shit started happening then; galaxies, suns, planets, life on earth. Therefore energy is the creator of everything, therefore god. I think that maybe earth is where energy existed before the universe ever did that's why there's is life here, or maybe it's a fluke happening all over the universe. I think that god is in people, in everything. I think that god does speak to us but without voice or words. I believe energy told mankind long ago and left a knowledge in our minds. I see it in the skeleton of every religion. It's about conscience and what you think is good. Like a more complicated form of animal instinct, like a human instinct. I think that isn't a place but is rather, having the my energy release to become a part of the greater energy. The energy from every sun that's burnt out, from every star that shines, from every tree that falls and every person and life form that has ever died. Sounds good to me; insatiable_and_waiting_to_cum. Last of all I think that religions just explain it the best they can, poor little guys. But that's only what I think I'm still not sure. Help me figure out How_to_figure_out_the_universe.

do you believe that god interferes in peoples lives? if someone believes in miracles, does that mean that they also believe that god is responsible for the bad things that happen to them? if you believe god healed your mother's cancer, does that mean you also have to believe that god let that little girl get raped and god let that boy get hit by a car? i saw a lady being interviewed who was at a prayer meeting for the girl who went missing during her tropical vacation. this woman had brought her daughter to the vigil so she could see the power of prayer. i just wonder what she would tell the girl about prayer if the missing woman turned out to be murdered or worse. i love god but i don't understand so many things.

i guess that's why i'm not christian anymore cause of that sort of thing that just didn't seem logical to me. the wrathful god or even better the loving god that lets horrible things happen to people with the only explanation that 'god only gives people what they can handle' the law of karma just makes more sense to me; bad things happen to people because somewhere along the line of their existence they did something bad to plant the seed of that bad event. super bad things may take lifetimes to come to fruition karmically. and it's very easy to see the effects of more short-term karma. so i've learned to take comfort in the fact that all those bastards will get theirs. gotta be careful about that though because taking pleasure in someone else's misfortune is bad karma. sorry about being preachy.

Um...what about people who didn't really do anything to deserve it,even karmically? Like a rape victim, or an abused child? Or a bunch of workers laid off by a company? Will they get a hole bunch of good stuff later to make up for it?

If God wouldn't "let" bad things happen, or create miracles and the like, what would be the point of the world? I'd say some things are in His hands, other stuff we ourselves are responsible for. Justice does exist, and in absolute. Maybe my proportion of goodluck or karma or whatever measures a bucket and yours just a thimble; you fill yours up to the brim by how you live your life, and I fill my bucket halfway upalthough I might have a hundred times more than you, you'd deserve better luck/heaven/happiness/// than I do. Equality is not the same as equivalence.

when there was only one set of footprints in the sand, like that hackneyed little parable suggests, if God was around at all he was not carrying me, he was standing on my head. among some it is an article of faith that your successes are owed to nothing less than the Grace of god, but your failures and hardships are entirely your own to endure. I cannot accept that. i cannot say that i no longer believe, though i have tried to convince myself that i don't - but i would be a liar if i said my heart was not hardened

karma isn't just good or just bad; everything that happens to you is a result of past actions. the universal law of cause and effect. so if you want bad to stop happening to you, stop doing bad. but we will always have to pay for our past actions. what if a 'miracle' was just the fruition of some really positive karma? why does there have to be something higher responsible for us? why do you look for something higher than yourself? is it just another way of escaping what you don't want to admit to? some people say that buddhism is a cold, logical philosophical response to religion. but there is a tremendous amount of faith in the fact that if you erase badness/evil/whatever you want to call it from your actions, eventually it will disappear from your life. if you feed a hungry friend, you feed yourself. light your lamp for others to follow. the buddha nature exists in us all, the ability to be truly awake. doesn't sound so different from the christian message that god is the glory and the light or that god sits in all of us to me. abre los ojos the common thread of compassion should hold us all together

Perhaps, in the case of God, we are attempting to explain or reject something we can't possibly comprehend. Perhaps, in the case of the universe, it is the same. We are thinking beyond our capacity. Our reach, as they say, extends beyond our grasp. To continually try to do something you can't possibly do (or understand something you can't possibly understand) leads only to fear, anger, and hate. Big picture people are never satisfied outside of malign depression.

About Buddhism being similar to Christianity. It's interesting you said that, it's interesting everytime someone says that. I was sent to "children's moral class" throughout my childhood. We studied all the known religions in chronological order, besides studying virtues and stuff. The obvious deduction by all was that all religions are basically saying the same thing. Just in different forms, with different names. Also, note how no two religions came at the same time (considering the big ones, that got many followers, termed as "world religions"). There is approximately a thousand years between each. I do believe in God, and I believe religions are like chapters in a book, each adding a bit more, but with the same essence. [This is NOT true for "religions", contorted truth by people and so called priests.]

you said "I'd say some things are in His hands, other stuff we ourselves are responsible for." this is the way it seems, but that's just messed up to me. if anything is in his hands, it's everything. it's all or nothing. to me it makes more sense that EVERYTHING is the effect of the thing that happened before it, and the thing before that, going all the way back to the beginning when he did the only thing he (the scientist in the sky) could (allowed himself to) do and set the whole mess into motion. really it's an experiment to see what shape this will take when left at your mercy. WHOA, scary.
