frAnk "memory will rust and erode into lists of all that you gave me; some matches, a blanket, this pain in my chest, the best parts of lonely, duct-tape and soldered wires, new words for old desires, and every birthday card i threw away."

samson has the ability to pull his heart and yours inside out with a turn of phrase. his slightly nasal, sweater wearing voice adds to the homliness of his down to earth confessional lyrics that are more memory pictures than short stories.

"how i don't know what i should do with my hands when i talk to you. how you don't know where you should look so you look at my hands. how movements rise and then dissolve melted by our shallow breath. how causes dance away from me. i am your pamphleteer."

as you probably know, the weakerthans took their name from the film adaptation of marguerite duras' book, 'the lover.'
("go ahead. i'm weaker than you can possibly imagine.") the band is known for promoting high standards, both political(shying away from major labels) and personal (vegetarianism).

the weakerthans are a sentimental coup in a war of sonic attrition.

what do you think, silentbob?

silentbob im fucking in love with them. i have seen them twice. the first time was better, the mood was just nicer for the audience and the band. When I listened to Propagandhi it was always John's songs that were my favorite.
I yanked out my copy of the Left and Leaving lyrics and got the entire bands autographs. then the bouncers made us leave.
The Weakerthans are so pure. so very pure. there might be sexual references in lyrics, or lyrics that are open for interpretation, but it isn't dirty at all. it's just so earthy and lovely.
Nursery Rock. Honest. Folk/punk anthems.
How many bands have you seen that have whirliwinds in their songs?
