golden_rule quotree "do not do unto others as you would have them do unto you. their taste may be different." 030805 ... scrooge mcduck "he who has the gold, makes the rules" 030805 ... shivers " it was al good untill he (use imagination) showed up" 030805 ... misstree when i was a typesetter, i got to work on a book that was aimed at teachers (mostly elementary school, i believe)... it was based around the concept of a contract of behavior... each child/student had certain rights, such as to be undisturbed during lessons so that they could do well, and to not have their personal space violated, and that their posessions were safe, and suchwhat and soforth... to violate one of these rights to another meant that you lost it yourself... if you were disruptive, you were not allowed to listen to the lesson... if you stole things, a teacher might, say, take your crayons away... things like that... seemed a very interesting concept, one that adults could do well with... when my 6-year old cousin slapped me a few thanksgivings back, i grabbed her hand and explained that, by hitting me, she had given up the right to not be hit... she said "i don't care." (she was a little hellion brat.) i explained to her that i could hit back a whole lot harder than she could. she started to get nervous. i explained that she should probably apologize, and never do anything like it again, because really, she didn't want to get hit, did she? she made a pouty face and ran off. still undecided as to how well this theory would work in real schools. 031215 ...
