janitor
the awful truth the man who washes all the floors in empty halls in midnight walks
he rounds the corner hears a noise and feels he's being stalked
or is it just the loneliness haunting every single silence
every time i'm alone i feel the cold.

the women waiting endlessly for buses in the rain and sleet
the bus that never stops
the men who work the graveyard shifts
the bored, stoned, lazy cops.

the people trapped inside the confines of a city
they know no one inside.
and you know there's no way to escape the ones you dont know
there's no where to hide

so out into the streets you go
in the car you should have sold
instead you work until you're old
and die all alone.

you kids have grown and moved away
you're nostalgic for the days
when you might have changed your ways
but now it's too late.

the man who drives the taxi cab
gas station clerks, the night watch men
the subway drivers watch the tracks
the men on buses don't look back
the kids are playing in the shacks
and i am picking
up the
slack.

the man who washes all the floors in empty halls in midnight walks
he rounds the corner hears a noise and feels he's being stalked
or is it just the loneliness haunting every single silence
as soon as i'm alone i feel the cold.
