unhinged b minor partita for unaccompanied violin

made me want to smash my violin against the practice room wall into a million little pieces my sophomore year of college

hey
i like BIBER better
but when played right
the d minor partita
by bach
is one of the most satisfying
violin works ever written
a solid bridge
between
the baroque and the classical

Floptolemy Judging from the 20-odd children of his, it seems more likely that Bach_fucked. 061101

unhinged in that century, i would have to agree. i don't think his wives hopped on top. (at least i think he had more than one...something about the first one dying or something like that.)

but i used to scream at my music my sophomore year. 'fuck you bach,' and literally want to throw my violin at the wall. and then i found much cooler baroque violin composers. so fuck bach.

ivet was the only music that kept me even mildly sane at that time.

Floptolemy Are you a Buxtehude fan, Unhinged? I know he wrote more for organ than for violin, but since you like Biber, I thought I'd try suggesting another 'B'. What about C.P.E.? 061102

road ann i would totally fuck catherine bach. well, maybe 15, 20 years ago. she's a bit long in the tooth now. 061102

unhinged buxtehude .... eh
sometimes he's a little too baroque for me. and c.p.e. is a little too much flash and not enough substance.

it took me a long time to really get into baroque music and the concept of affect rather than the monumental emotional vomitting of the 19th century. often times i still prefer the melodrama/cleavage of the romantic to the affect/bare ankle of the baroque.

Pto I can tell that we turn to baroque for very different things... but power to us both! 061103

no reason i used to tell him that it wasn't that i didn't think bach was talented; i knew he was (pardon the gross understatement), but i wasn't nearly as much of a fan of the baroque period as i was of the others. he just couldn't understand it.

i like the inventions.
