birdmad There is a point in those hours between night and morning when there is more light than just moon and stars, but not enough to see clearly unless you've been wandering the night the whole time

The sun, in that span, is little more than a faint orange band of light on the eastern horizon, but oddly enough, the light it gives is a pale blue-grey

Wander around a little before some sunrise in a place that maybe is or isn't quite safe and see what i mean.

Anyone else you see will look like a ghost in that light and you like a ghost to them.

Stop and listen and you will be greeted by mostly silence in that hour.

The night-time animals are settling in to hide from day and the things that move in daylight are, save for a few birds here and there, not ready to go just yet

it's almost like time between time

Mostly i sleep through it now, one of the last times i stopped to catch the transfer of night to day was wandering around a hillside and sitting on a park at the foot of the hill on the swingset as the sun rose and the bats came home to roost until the next night fell

i'm rambling now.

but don't i always?

pipedream that's my favourite time of 24 hours...the transition. it's like God's sitting next to you.
magic things could happen, in the twilight between night and day...it's a suspension of reality, the not-quite-either....lurvely!
