black-dyed gel product I love the movie series. I love the planet. I love the Simpsons "Stop the Planet of the Apes, I Want to Get Off" musical. Hell, I just like monkeys.

But today I saw the new Planet of the Apes movie, and I was somewhat disappointed. Visually it's wonderful. On the monkey-meter, I'd give it a ten; there's a lot of monkey men in the movie. The plot, however, seemed rather hackneyed, and the acting was overly-dramatic. I'm really suprised at Tim Burton; I thought he would have made something more meaningful. There was barely a trace of the anti-war themes present in the orginal (unless you count the cheesy "why can't humans and apes just get along" theme driven into the ground throughout the film), and the ending could not hold a candle to the original Statue of Liberty scene. One small thing that pissed me off in the movie was that in the original film the savage humans were unable to speak. In the new film, the humans all speak English, just like the apes. I also did not appreciate the obligatory tasteless references to the orginal film done by butchering classic lines. I was very upset with the writing in the new Planet of the Apes. If you want to see a visually pleasing movie, or simply enjoy monkey-men, then by all means go seem the film. If you are, however, looking for a meaningful peace of cinema, go rent the original.

jem i work in a movie theatre, so at a box office standpoint, the movie did hilariously well. however, i overheard some people as they were leaving saying that the first one was a lot better. my generation, the pre-old-planet-of-the-apes generation, will probably like it. but oh well.
i like monkies too.

Casey I can't believe I spent five bucks to see it. There was only one part that I half-way liked. Other than that, It's not worth it 010730
