the moment copello heard the disgust in the old woman's voice when she had mentioned the name of fyn gula, he was wary of her, like one who sees a stray dog and doesn't know whether to pet it or stay away from it. though he wasn't proud of fyn's influence, involvement, and association in his life, they did share a history together, even if it was sordid. however, upon the mention and offering of the gingerbread shutter, copello's deference was easily disuaded because previous experience with the substance was, let's say...enlightening? um...otherworldly? well, at least it opened a door to somewhere he had never been to before, and that is always exciting. but, unfortunately, copello found other sources in secret, was a shutter addict, and didn't know when to stop. "i knew it was dangerous bringing him there," helin said later when anton asked her about the time with the old couple. "but riding that little train was absolutely necessary for the recognition element of the marox pass recovery. i thought maybe he had the strength to resist temptation, but i was sadly and grossly mistaken." she shook her head and looked off to the distance of reckoning. "fuck!" the way it happened was like this: helin had politely declined when the old woman offered the taste of sweet shutter, fully expecting copello to follow her lead since his last imbibe nearly led him to wander the earth alone. he probably would have said a quick and simple "no, thanks," but fate and timing provided the opportunity to stumble again. the old man with the weezer t-shirt, who had driven the minature train around the circular track wanted to show helin his collection of found papers and called her over to where he was, some fifty feet away at his writing cottage. therefore, copello siezed the moment,(oh, don't we all?) and graciously accepted a piece of shutter.
