The first half of the set was powering through, trying to get to half time before simon had to leave. Second half was a little better paced, because there was no pressure, and we were a little drunker after the break. And then I found myself saying "I hope you all had a great time, this is gonna be our last song. We're the earthlings, have a great night." And a huge arpeggiated chord rang out from Andrew's piano. And Songthing clicked and I just started soloing straight from the heart. And Koopa and Ben caught on ofer a cuple of bas, because ben got up and started playing the top end of andrews piano- which led to timing problems for everyone else - no drums suddenly is a bit disconcerting, but we didn't care. And I sung it like I didn't care and we played it for the song, not for the party that were listening. And maybe it sounded like shit to the listeners, I don't know. Chez didn't seem to think it was anything special, though when I looked over she'd picked up the tambourine. So we played the song for ourselves, grinning madly at each other and playing out of time with odd embellishments. But simon sure missed something special by leaving. We all went 'fuck it, this is our last song' all at once without blinking.
