epitome of incomprehensibility
|
When I was around ten I had a kit with washable nail-polish in different colours. My younger brother was into history at that time, and he requested that I paint Crusader crosses (white background, red cross slightly flared at the edges) on a couple of his fingernails. Then our mother requested he take it off. Not only was she conforming to gender stereotypes in thinking that nail polish was for girls, she also denied him his right to display faith-related symbols! Seriously, the Crusades were not very good things. But in terms of aesthetics, I like the flared crosses or intricate Celtic ones better than just two plain lines. I'm not sure Jesus would have appreciated the difference, however. (Great. Now straight lines will feel insulted. I've got to stop offending people.)
